Terry Leong became World Vision Malaysia’s (WVM) CEO in 2022, and it’s a perfect fit seeing that her vision and mission are aligned with the organisation’s, which is to work with children and families to overcome poverty and injustice. Aside from fundraising to make this transformation happen, she works hard to raise awareness and inspire Malaysians towards this cause by sharing stories of need and the stories of compassion and kindness of those who meet those needs.

Being a child-focused organisation, everything World Vision does is aimed at improving, maintaining, and upholding the well-being of children who require assistance. They do this through their Child Sponsorship Programme, which matches each child to a unique sponsor. Financial support towards this programme not only benefits the child exclusively, but a portion donated to each child goes to the community too, funding water and sanitation, education, and child protection matters. Leong highlights a unique first with this programme via their CHOSEN campaign. With CHOSEN, children are now empowered to choose their sponsors.

Through WVM, Terry is currently focused on addressing child hunger and malnutrition from underprivileged communities through their One Goal Malaysia Eat Right to Play Right programme which improves the nutritional health of these children through healthy eating and active lifestyles.

Leong was a corporate legal advisor before joining World Vision International in 2009 and subsequently the senior leadership of World Vision Malaysia in 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Monash University, Australia. She is married with two grown-up sons.
