The dapper business consultant on intentional dressing and developing a taste for ‘sprezzatura’
Growing up in a high-profile family who is celebrated in the fashion scene, Terimunite Chandran (eldest son of designer and fellow Asia’s Most Stylish honouree, Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran) shares that “fashion has always been a part of my family’s DNA.” More than a tool for personal expression though, Terimunite shares that to him fashion is all about intentional dressing.
“Dressing for the occasion is a form of respect to the host of the event. When effort is put in your style, it shows that you look forward to meeting the person and that you truly value their time.” It is no wonder he is a fixture in KL’s young social set.
The business consultant is often in a well-tailored suit or jacket and accessorised around the edges: hats, sunglasses, jewellery. He says he gets complimented on the rings he wears all the time although, “I honestly don’t have that many but they are all intentional and meaningful.” His style is described as classic with a modern twist and he says his philosophy is to stand out subtly.
Picture the king of sprezzatura, Gianni Agnelli, who embodies the Italian style of studied effortlessness and as Terimunite shared, “breaks the rules in little and quirky ways such as wearing his watch over his cuffs or having his own quirky way of tying his ties.
“To me, style is fluid and ever changing. It is like going on a self-discovery journey. It allows me to express myself through every change I go through in life.”
