A former navy chief and current acting premier, as a politician Teo Chee Hean has risen through the ranks with a variety of portfolios over the years

Teo Chee Hean is Senior Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for National Security. As a Member of Parliament, he also represents the Pasir Ris West ward in the Pasir Ris–Punggol Group Representation Constituency (GRC).

Teo’s responsibilities encompass managing Singapore’s Smart Nation and Digital Government Group, the National Security Co-ordination Secretariat, the National Population and Talent Division, and the National Climate Change Secretariat under the Prime Minister’s Office.

Teo had a military career before he entered politics, holding a number of senior appointments in the Republic of Singapore Navy and the Joint Staff. He reached the pinnacle in 1991 when he was named Chief of Navy and promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral.

His past ministerial portfolio includes appointments as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Defence, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for the Environment and Minister for Education. Teo also served as Minister of State in the Ministries of Defence, Communications and Finance.

He is married, and has a son and a daughter.
