The vice chairman of Mission Hills Group, operator of the world’s largest golfing facility, Tenniel Chu leads the company founded by his father, David, alongside his brother, chairman and CEO Ken. He has helped to build it into a force to be reckoned with in China’s sports and leisure sector, which first made a splash with Mission Hills Shenzen, the world’s largest golfing facility, featuring 12 courses and a host of other hospitality options. In 2008 it was joined by Mission Hills Haikou on Hainan Island, with a further 10 courses. The company also operates a range of other sports and leisure facilities, including Movie Town Haikou, a giant media production facility and tourist attraction; and China’s first football academy, which is operated by football club Barcelona.

Before joining the company in 2001, Tenniel Chu studied professional golf management and worked at the PGA Tour’s US headquarters. He is also the deputy commissioner of regional tour OneAsia, vice chairman of the China Golf Association, and founding chairman of the China chapter of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.

Chu’s record gift of C$1.67 million (US$1.33 million) to his alma mater the University of Toronto helped to establish the Tenniel Chu Sports Management Programme in 2018. He is married to Carmen, with whom he has two children, Gwyneth and Ethan.
