Activist and Environmentalist
A royal environmentalist and activist, she champions food security and community empowerment across Malaysia through Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia
Tengku Zatashah Idris, the daughter of the ruler of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, is one of Malaysia’s most visible social advocates, known for her leadership in education, culture and environmental sustainability. She serves as Royal Patron of Make-A-Wish Malaysia and President of Alliance Française Kuala Lumpur, promoting French language and culture. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded France’s highest honours—the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 2017 and the Officier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques in 2025—as well as Selangor’s First Class SSIS (Datuk Setia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah) award in 2009.
A long-time environmental champion, she launched the #SayNo2Plastic and #ZeroFoodWastage campaigns, the latter saving over 1,000 tonnes of food and helping nearly 40,000 people through partnerships with hotels, supermarkets and Kechara Soup Kitchen. For her impact, she was named ADEX Ocean Ambassador (2019) and represented Malaysia at the ChangeNOW Summit in Paris (2020).
Beyond advocacy, Tengku Zatashah sits on the boards of the Selangor Youth Community, Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor, the Food Bank Malaysia Foundation and the Alice Smith School Foundation. A former journalist and corporate communications executive with L’Oréal in Paris, she now serves as an independent non-executive director of InNature Berhad, owner of The Body Shop Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia.
