Supporting adult survivors of child sexual abuse and shining a light on the scale of the issue
Taura Edgar is the founder of TALK Hong Kong, a volunteer group that supports adult survivors of child sexual abuse—the vast majority of whom are female, and aims to shine a light on the scale of the issue through advocacy and research. With little data available in Hong Kong, this year Edgar launched the Magnitude of Child Sexual Abuse in Hong Kong: Review of Evidence 2010-2021 study to illuminate the magnitude of child sexual abuse in Hong Kong (85 percent of victims are female and 15 percent of girls are affected) as a means to create public awareness and address the issue despite the stigma that surrounds the topic.
