Tan Hwa Min

COO, TRX City Sdn Bhd

Tatler Asia

A dynamic leader shaping Kuala Lumpur’s evolution through a vibrant and sustainable development at the Tun Razak Exchange.

As the COO of TRX City Sdn Bhd, Tan Hwa Min oversees the conceptualisation, planning, design, delivery, and commercialisation of Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Malaysia’s International Financial Centre. An MBA graduate from Imperial College London, he has been instrumental in shaping TRX’s growth since joining the company over a decade ago.

The 70-acre business district in Kuala Lumpur, TRX is designed to position the city as a leading financial hub in Southeast Asia, playing a significant role in boosting economic growth and enhancing Kuala Lumpur’s status among global cities. Tan and his team created the development not just to be a business centre but also to ensure it is a social and lifestyle destination with inviting public spaces. At the heart of the district is The Exchange TRX mall and rooftop TRX City Park, which have been open for a year and are already a resounding success. The mall’s diverse tenants include many large international brands and has become the venue for high-profile events, frequently hosting overseas celebrities. TRX’s vibrant atmosphere and pedestrian-friendly design have made it a popular destination for both tourists and locals.

TRX’s storied journey has been full of high-profile challenges, but the resilient team pushed through for its steady expansion. Today, more than 30,000 workers are in TRX, and new residential and hospitality components will open soon. This progress is solidifying TRX’s presence in Kuala Lumpur’s skyline and its position as a CBD.

Tan envisions TRX as synonymous with doing business in Malaysia. He sees the district ecosystem growing, with plans to integrate education and training initiatives to develop high quality talent. Tan also aims to infuse more arts, culture, and live entertainment into the area, creating an environment that cultivates work-life balance and also inspires and enriches life in the city.
