Co-founder and group CEO, Olam Group
Agri-business giant Olam Group’s CEO has maintained impeccable eco-credentials
Sunny Verghese is an influential leader in global agribusiness through Olam Group Limited, a Singapore Exchange-listed company dealing in food ingredients and agricultural raw materials such as cocoa, coffee, rice, nuts, spices, and cotton. As co-founder and Group CEO, he has led Olam to become one of the 30 largest companies by market capitalisation on the SGX.
Founded in 1989, Olam now employs some 92,000 people and operates in more than 60 countries, sourcing crops from over 5 million farmers worldwide. The company integrates every step of the value chain—from origination and processing to logistics and distribution. Verghese’s leadership has been defined by his focus on sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth.
In 2025, Olam announced a US$500 million investment into its food ingredients arm, Olam Food Ingredients (ofi), while also outlining a broader strategic restructuring. With an eye on sustainability, Olam was also one of the firms that pledged to support global efforts to reach net-zero emissions globally by 2050, at the World Leaders Summit on Forests and Land Use at the climate-change conference COP26.
Verghese was awarded Singapore’s Public Service Medal, and he continues to play key roles outside of Olam. He chairs GenZero, Temasek’s carbon solutions platform. He previously served on the Board of Trustees at the National University of Singapore from 2009 to 2013.
