Under the International Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, marine biologist Dr Suchana Chavanich plays a pivotal role in the conservation of coral reefs in the Pacific. She actively engages with local communities in Thailand and beyond, advocating for the protection and surveillance of coral reef health. Her approach emphasises eco-friendly and sustainable solutions that contribute to the economy.

Because of her efforts, Chavanich has received numerous recognitions and awards. These include the Rolex Explorer Award by National Geographic Magazine, Thailand (2018) and the N.K. Panikkar Medal from UNESCO-IOC (2017).

Dr Chavanich is also an associate professor with the Department of Marine Science at Chulalongkorn University.
