Tatler Dining’s Chef of the Year 2023 is pushing Penang’s culinary scene to new levels

Su Kim Hock was named Tatler Dining’s Chef of the Year in 2023 and is the chef-proprietor of Restaurant au Jardin, one of Malaysia’s first recipients of a Michelin star in 2022.

Based in Penang, Su enjoys championing local artisans and farmers, aiming to empower these producers. He recognises the importance of nurturing the next generation of chefs and remains committed to Penang’s food industry, readily offering assistance to peers and sharing culinary knowledge.

He is also one of the forces behind the latest Spanish tapas eatery in Penang, Un Poco Loco, where he curated the menu, among other things. Additionally, he is the newest Krug ambassade, part of a network of unique Krug Champagne ambassadors, actively engaging consumers to discover or rediscover Krug and its exquisite wines—specially selected by the champagne house itself.

He is also passionate about sustainability, and is currently working on an initiative to power the French-inspired Restaurant au Jardin with solar and renewable energy.
