Joint managing partner, TSMP Law Corporation
Legal eagle, “people person” and champion of gender equality, Stefanie Yuen Thio co-runs TSMP Law Corporation with her husband and has contributed to charitable causes
Stefanie Yuen Thio started TSMP Law Corporation with her husband, Thio Shen Yi, in 1998. The couple helm the practice as joint managing partners, taking it from a modest start-up with seven lawyers at its inception to a renowned boutique legal agency with a staff of more than 60 in two decades.
Thio currently heads TSMP’s Transactional Practice, with her areas of specialisation including capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and commercial transactions and investments. Notable cases she has handled include Halcyon Agri’s US$1.58 billion merger with Sinochem International in 2016, and acting for mm2 Asia in its SG$230 million acquisition of Cathay Organisation’s Singapore cinema business in 2017.
Outside of work, Thio works for charitable causes such as providing free cleft-palate surgery for underprivileged children. She is a regular commentator on issues that are close to her heart, including female empowerment. She also appears on the BBC’s Business Matters, a morning programme centred on news and current affairs.
