Founder and chairman, Indorama Corporation
In 1973, 21-year-old Sri Prakash Lohia left his hometown of India with his father to move to Indonesia to start a new life. A few years later, the father-and-son set up Indorama Synthetics, a cotton yarn spinning company. Over the years, the business became a petrochemicals production powerhouse and expanded across other sectors like polyester, spun yarns, and textiles. Today, Lohia sits as founder and chairman of Indorama Corporation and reigns as one of Indonesia’s richest men. In 2006, Lohia acquired a plant in Nigeria that produces fertiliser and today is one of the largest petrochemical companies in Africa. Now, his son, Amit Lohia, is involved in running the business. Lohia is also a member of the Employers Association of Indonesia, the Association of Indonesian Synthetic Fiber Producers and the Indonesian Textile Association. In 2020, Forbes magazine ranked him number five on the list of Indonesia’s 50 Richest.
