Behind Taiwan’s swift and efficient response to the pandemic is Shih-chung Chen, who served as the commander of the Central Epidemic Command Center of the organization in 2020. He became widely recognized as the main speaker in daily press updates on the pandemic, with his approval rating rising to 91 per cent at the beginning of 2020. Chen was previously the deputy minister of the Department of Health of the Executive Yuan. During his term, he advocated for increasing the total number of dentists in the National Health Insurance System. He later became the minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
