Co-founder of local accessories brands Sereni & Shentel and Bowerhaus, Datin Shen-tel Lee got involved in charity work by sheer happenstance. During the recent pandemic, Lee saw a need to help families who were hit hard financially with basic food essentials. While many NGOs knew the families who needed help, they lacked the funds to assist. To bridge this, Lee took to Instagram to start a community initiative named Kuching Food Aid which soon grew to help over 2000 families in a single month. Kuching Food Aid is now East Malaysia's only food bank that is founded privately by individuals from all around the world.

In 2023, Lee, together with her family and husband, Dato Bobby Ting, opened a Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) in the heart of Kuching to connect NGOs and local welfare agencies in one place, making it easier for patrons who need help to come forward. Kucing CSSC has a soup kitchen that provides breakfast and lunch daily as well as weekly activities that can benefit the community, all of which are free and open to the public. Partnering with the Ministry of Welfare enables government agencies to work together with NGOs for resource sharing. This first-of-its-kind initiative may set the template for more to come, and thus far, over 1000 patrons come for assistance monthly and connect with either an NGO or a government agency for help.

Lee is currently working on a case management system that will help NGOs and Government agencies link combined cases. She also continues to harness the power of social media to secure donations for Kuching Food Aid, highlighting that food security is still a very urgent problem post-pandemic, especially with soaring cost of living.

While Lee’s social media following is substantial, she remains unassuming and content to be remembered as someone who got things done behind the scenes and who put her hand up to help even at times she didn't know how she could.
