The charismatic director sets the benchmark in the entertainment industry

Shau Di Wang, affectionately known as “Teacher Shau Di”, is a charismatic director in the film and television industry. She is passionate and humorous, emphasising the societal communication function of television over artistic expression. For 40 years, she has continuously created films, television shows, documentaries and stage plays, infusing her works with creativity and vitality.

Her television dramas produced during the folk wisdom era, such as Happy Family, Good Fortune Family, Mother Hen and Duckling and Nasan Ma-gu: My Home, represent heartwarming family dramas in late 20th-century Taiwan. The film Grandma and Her Ghosts is a Taiwanese animated classic beloved by audiences of all ages. In 1992, she founded Inari Film Studio and created television dramas like Big Hospital, Small Doctor, Feast, 45 Degrees Celsius Under the Sky, Miss Policewoman, Hedgehog Boy, Forever Young Dad and After 20, addressing various social issues and raising awareness among viewers.

Starting in 2016, she ventured into the television series Plant Theatre (植劇場), not only driving the trend of Taiwanese genre dramas but also cultivating a new generation of talents in the film and television industry. In 2019, she collaborated internationally with Singapore to create In Your Eyes, a groundbreaking dual-location television series.

In 2020, she initiated Sprout Theatre (茁劇場), adapting literary works by Taiwanese authors and injecting vitality into Taiwanese television dramas through diverse genres and the nurturing of young actors. Currently, she is working on the production of Grandma and Her Ghosts 2: Baby Power, while simultaneously exploring emerging trends in online media to create innovative series like Xiao Jing and Yan Yan.
