Sharan Valiram

One of the three brothers behind a leading luxury and lifestyle brands conglomerate, Sharan Valiram is co-Executive Director of the Valiram Group

Profile

One of the executive directors of the Valiram Group, Sharan Valiram—along with his younger brothers Ashvin and Mukesh—is responsible for transforming the family business from a humble textile merchant to Southeast Asia’s leading luxury-goods purveyor and retail specialist.

Joining the family business in 1995 after returning from studying abroad, Sharan and his brothers first ventured into F&B with the trendy nightlife hotspot Café Iguana in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Soon afterwards, they made a foray into travel retail, opening their first of many airport-based boutiques, starting with their own Valiram textile store in Subang International Airport and later moving on to global luxury brands Dunhill, Coach, Hermès and Montblanc in KLIA.

With their travel retail also extending to Penang International Airport and Changi Airport in Singapore, the Valiram Group began their domination of downtown retail, expanding their international luxury brand portfolio. They brought Rolex, Michael Kors, Jimmy Choo, Giuseppe Zanotti and Kate Spade to major shopping malls in the region. Today, the group represents more than 200 brands with 350-plus stores in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Russia and more.

In 2020, the group launched a coffee-table book charting its history since 1935. Sharan, who is the eldest of the brothers, is married to Lavina Melwani Valiram, and together they have two sons.
