Top-notch venture capitalist and incubator of emerging companies

Shailendra J Singh is managing director of Sequoia Capital, a marquee venture capital fund. Singh has helped lead the firm to become the largest of its kind in India, backing companies such as Zomato, Byju’s, Oyo and Pine Labs.

Since leading the firm’s expansion into Southeast Asia, Singh has also had a hand in nurturing ride-hailing app Gojek and digital ledger app BukuKas. The firm launched start‑up accelerator Surge in 2018 with an eye on Indian and Southeast Asian companies, and in 2020 raised $1.35 billion for two new funds that will invest across the two regions. That same year, Sequoia Capital launched The Guild, a community programme that lets founders share their experiences and gain insights from top global speakers.

Prior to Sequoia, Singh worked at Bain & Company in New York. He is a Kauffman Fellow and the holder of an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.
