See Hooi Geok

Anaesthesiologist

According to See Hooi Geok, anaesthesiologists are the “hidden doctors” of the surgery scene. “We predict what can happen and smoothen the process, minimising complications and making complex processes seem simple.” Her accomplishments, however, are far from latent. The associate consultant of anaesthesiology at the Singapore General Hospital has also worked with emergency doctors, paramedics and pilots to treat patients by the roadside and on the airport apron, and gone through the Helicopter Underwater Egress Training, which equipped her with emergency aquatic survival skills. Hooi Geok volunteered with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) from 2009 to 2010, and continues to donate to the international humanitarian organisation yearly. When in need of a breather, she turns to Chinese art painting, which she hopes to pursue once she retires.
