From ruling Indonesian and Asian tracks, racing prodigy Sean Gelael is taking the fast track towards dominating European racing circuits. Gelael started his long and winding love affair with racing in karting. In 2011, he finished third overall in the Asian Karting Open Championship’s Formula 125 Senior Open.

Geleal’s professional racing career launched the following year at the Formula Pilota China, where he placed fourth. At 16, he was believed to be the youngest Formula 3 podium finisher after his impressive outing at the 2013 Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, UK.

The young racer has since moved to Europe to compete. Geleal has been with various teams including Carlin and Prema before landing his current team, Jota Sports. A fixture in endurance racing competitions in recent years, he has raced Asian and European Le Mans series.

Geleal recently competed in the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship with Belgian racer Stoffel Vandoorne and British-Swedish racer Tom Blomqvist, where the team finished in second place. Meanwhile in 2021’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, Gelael made a triumphant debut, placing seventh in the overall standings and second in the LMP2 class.

Gelael is the son of President Director of Fast Food Indonesia and Founder of Indonesian motor racing team Jagonya Ayam, Ricardo Gelael
