The former CEO of NTUC Enterprise now focuses on his role as as Speaker of Parliament

Seah Kian Peng

Mr Seah Kian Peng is the Speaker of Parliament. He was elected to the post by Members of Parliament on 2 August 2023, making him the 11th Speaker of Singapore since the First Legislative Assembly of 1955. Mr Seah has been an elected MP for Braddell Heights constituency in Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency since 2006, having been successfully re-elected in 2011, 2015 and 2020. From 2011 to 2015, he was the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and also the Chair of the Estimates Committee.

Mr Seah has worked in both the public and private sectors, but a large part of his career was spent with the NTUC Group where he helmed various entities. In particular, he spent over 22 years with NTUC FairPrice, where he was the Group CEO. From October 2019, Mr Seah assumed the concurrent the role of Group CEO of NTUC Enterprise Co-operative Limited [NE] which has net assets of over S$50b, annual group revenue of $9b and a staff strength of over 20,000. His primary focus at NE was to propel growth and implement transformative initiatives across its various entities spanning different industries.

Mr Seah has served on various boards including SingTel, National Parks Board, Health Promotion Board, SoilBuild Group, ST Logistics, Trust Bank as well as Income Insurance, NTUC First Campus, NTUC Health, NTUC Learning Hub, Mercatus and Tangram Asia Capital. He has also served on global boards including Consumer Goods Forum and International Co-operative Alliance. He was the founding Chairman at the Harvard Business School Club of Singapore before stepping down in 2018.

Mr Seah is a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Directors and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He has won various awards over the years and was accorded the Co-operative Champion award by Singapore National Co-operatives Federation in 2013, the Medal of Commendation by NTUC in 2015 and the prestigious Outstanding CEO of the Year 2019/2020 award at the Singapore Business Awards.

Mr Seah currently chairs the Marine Parade Leadership Foundation and serves on the board of Singapore Olympic Foundation. He has served on the Boards of various organisations, including NTUC FairPrice Foundation, Centre for Fathering, Singapore Centre for Social Enterprises (raiSE), and Singapore National Co-operatives Federation.

Actively engaged in community efforts, Mr Seah currently chairs the Marine Parade Leadership Foundation and serves on the board of Singapore Olympic Foundation. He has served on the Boards of various organisations, including NTUC FairPrice Foundation, Centre for Fathering, Singapore Centre for Social Enterprises (raiSE), and Singapore National Co-operatives Federation.

Seah was born into a family of six, consisting of his father, a line worker in a printing firm and his mother, a housewife who took on sewing gigs to supplement the family income, and himself, the third out of the four children.
