“It’s easy as walking,” words easier said than done when re-learning how to walk after a multiple hip fracture. Though she fractured her hip in June 2016 during triathlon training after falling from her bike, the indefatigable British-Filipina model-turned leading Filipino photographer remains an eternal optimist, and maintains peace of mind through yoga. In the meantime, the Ateneo alum and MFA holder from University of Chicago (summa cum laude) is grateful for her 13th year in the industry of shooting some of the biggest names and beauty campaigns for clients like Ponds, Dove and L’Oréal. She is particularly chuffed about the private sittings she’s done with regular women who have cried after a shoot, realising they have so much beauty in them. “That gift of self-esteem is priceless,” says Sara, who is known for fresh and arresting portraits of women. She has exhibited worldwide; her projects in 2016 include Caledonia, Schottish, Sculpture Workshop, Scotland (where she was also artist in residence) and Verge, Reedsburg, WI (group). She actively participates in workshops, conferences and community service, along with writing academic articles, extensive reviews, and two books. Amongst her many accolades, she was awarded the 3AP Artist Funding Support, 3Arts (2016).
