Top corporate and civil-service honcho, and current Minister for Transport, S Iswaran once served in a managerial capacity in Sinda and Temasek Holdings

Minister for Transport S Iswaran oversees the ministry ensuring Singapore’s transportation connectivity, and the smooth running of its land, air and sea modes of transport. The former business executive is concurrently the Republic’s Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, managing a range of multilateral and bilateral trade negotiations.

Iswaran’s key duties involve re-building Singapore’s status as an international air hub and the safe re-starting of air travel in a Covid-19 landscape. He is also charged with strengthening the country’s maritime cluster, and building a reliable and sustainable land-transport network.

Iswaran joined the Administrative Service in 1987. He served in the Ministries of Home Affairs and Education, and was seconded to the National Trade Union Congress (NTUC) and subsequently the Singapore Indian Development Association as its first CEO. He also had stints in the private sector as a director at Singapore Technologies and as managing director at sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings.
