Fencer, singer
Ryan Choi is Hong Kong’s first fencing world champion who is now making his mark in Canto-pop
Ryan Choi is one of Hong Kong’s most celebrated professional fencers. In 2025, he claimed the men’s foil individual gold at the World Fencing Championships to become Hong Kong’s first ever world champion in the sport—a title that followed victories at the Shanghai Grand Prix and the Asian Championships, propelling him to world number one for 11 months.
In July 2026, he added a team silver at the World Championships, competing through injury. Beyond the piste, Choi has emerged as a Canto-pop singer, releasing two solo singles in 2026 and recording Break Through The Sky with Hong Kong singer-songwriter Phil Lam—the official theme song of the 20th Asian Games. In his debut music video, he appeared in a sleek, slim-cut black suit, a sartorial side of him rarely seen on the piste. With the Asian Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics firmly in his sights, Choi shows no signs of slowing down.
