Not all artists are tortured, even when the art they produce seems to express a dark and ethereal sensibility. For Ruben Pang, who has had several sell-out solo exhibitions, hyper-self-consciousness is a crutch. To soothe the anxiety he sometimes battles with, he turns to memories of his friend’s cat, whose presence helped calm his emotions when he was doing an art residency in Australia.
