Rubby Emir

Founder and CEO and Senior Project Manager, LSM Saujana, Kerjabilitas.com, and Humanitarian Benchmark Consulting

Rubby Emir readily admits he used to be discriminatory against the disabled because of ignorance, not understanding the struggles his mentally handicapped sister undergoes. However, when he started volunteering, including for Danish Red Cross, he had an epiphany. This led to him founding LSM Saujana (2014), a Yogyakarta NGO for social and environmental issues. From there, he established Kerjabilitas.com (2015), Indonesia’s first job-matching platform for people with disabilities. It combines job-matching technology and activities to improve employer accessibility and employability. For example, they launched Pustakabilitas, an online course offering material development skills. He aims to change the mindsets of both employers and employees, stating that the loss of one sense means strength in another, exemplified by how a deaf administrator will be more productive since they are not disturbed by noise. By 2017, they have over 4000 active users, and are partnered with local, national and international companies such as Shangri-La Hotels, L'Oreal, and CIMB Niaga Bank. Kerjabilitas was nominated for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize 2018. Rubby was named by e27 as one of Indonesia’s top 27 innovators in 2016. He is also the senior project manager for Humanitarian Benchmark Consulting.
