Chairman, Huagu Development Co.

Construction magnate Rong Chang Zhong keeps business professional

Unlike most family corporations, chairman Rong Chang Zhong says that Huagu adopts a professional manager system, believing that ownership should be separated from management. Nevertheless, his son joined the company in 2013, starting at the bottom and currently working as his father’s special assistant.

Zhong has told his son that if he has what it takes, he can become the CEO; if not, he will merely be a shareholder. Zhong founded Huagu Construction in 1989, starting with five employees and NT$50 million. In those 30 years, the company has built around 70 projects and accumulated NT$154.5 billion in sales. The return on investment of the founding shareholders is as high as 52 times. The pandemic has not halted Huagu’s projects, with four new projects expected to be completed and five new ones to be launched in 2021. Its projects include the award-winning Sky Garden residential skyscraper in Shilin District.
