A professor at D La Salle University and resident political analyst for GMA Network, Richard’s latest book The Rise of Duterte: A Populist Revolt Against Elite Democracy , was published by Palgrave Macmillan (London) and is the first internationally-published book on our incumbent president and the implications of his term for the country and beyond. Richard was also selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in the Philippines for his contributions to the social sciences. He has written hundreds of articles on developments in the Philippines and the broader region for The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, CNN International, and Aljazeera, among others. He frequently holds lectures and talks in leading universities such as Harvard and Stanford, as well as at major think tanks in Europe, Asia, and America. He is currently working on publishing two more books, one on President Trump and another on the subject of populism in Asia.
