Helping people build better lives for themselves and making a profit to impact more lives are two things that every successful social venture must accomplish. Ray Chen did that even before he founded Living Water Social Ventures, Taiwan’s first venture capital management company that invests 100 per cent in social innovation enterprises.

Chen provides start-up funds for individuals or companies that want to start profit-with-purpose businesses to create a positive, measurable impact on communities and the world—especially in the fields of medical care, food, agriculture, environment, education innovation, and local creation.

Since 2007, he has participated in the business development and fundraising of numerous social enterprise companies. He believes that social innovation in Taiwan has reached the 3.0-stage “impact investment”, and such social innovations today will be tomorrow’s normal businesses. “When investors’ attitudes and values change, the market has opportunities and the company can change,” he said.
