Puan Maharani

PDI-P politician Puan Maharani is the first woman to serve as the speaker of the People’s Representative Council. She was elected in 2019 and is also one of the youngest to have been able to fill the role. She is also one of the critical leaders of the Indonesian Democratic Party, and was first elected to the People’s Representative Council in 2009.

Previously, Maharani served as Co-ordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (2014-2019). She is the youngest child of former female-president Megawati Soekarnoputri, and is the third generation of the Sukarno family to dedicate their lives to serving the nation. She started becoming involved in public service when her mother was president two decades ago.

Maharani graduated from the University of Indonesia in 1997, focusing on Mass Communication.
