Since his appointment two years ago, Prabowo Subianto is not wasting his time as the Minister of Defence. The former army lieutenant-general has demonstrated that his influential network and personal resources have made him one of the most substantial ministers to take this position in recent history.

Subianto, who was married for 15 years to former president Suharto’s second daughter Titiek, is the chairman of the Gerindra Party, the third-largest political party in Indonesia, which oversees defence-policy issues. He has proven he is active as a Defence Minister, having conducted numerous visits to many countries to formulate Indonesia's solid external defence plan.

With substantial military experience under his belt, he proves his authority and strategy by beefing up the defence teams for Indonesia in both air and sea, acknowledging Indonesia's strategic position in the archipelagic waters.
