The chair of the Singapore Economic Development Board strives to foster sustainable economic growth 

Appointed Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) on 1 May 2023, Png Cheong Boon leads the government agency in its goal of creating sustainable economic growth in the country. It also works to develop key industries, foster innovation, and enhance the business environment to ensure Singapore's economic competitiveness and sustainability.

During his time as the former CEO of Enterprise Singapore, Png steered the statutory board in its mission of promoting enterprise development in the country and helping local firms internationalise, innovate, and build their business capabilities. The government agency was formed after International Enterprise Singapore and Spring Singapore merged in April 2018.

Png joined the public service in 1993 with the Economic Development Board (EDB). He held various appointments in his decade with the government agency, including more than six years at EDB’s US operations in Chicago and San Francisco. He spent another decade at Spring Singapore, and was also chief executive of JTC Corporation from 2013 to 2017. Prior to Enterprise Singapore, Png was second permanent secretary at the Ministry of Trade & Industry. He has also held directorships in Singapore Information Services, SPIB Holdings and the Intellectual Property Academy, among others.

Png Cheong Boon, who holds an electrical engineering degree from Cornell University, New York, was one of the first EDB-GlaxoSmithKline scholars. The scholarship provides funding for Singapore’s brightest young students to study at top schools in the UK and the US.
