Flipped classroom advocate Benson Yeh successfully channels gaming principles for education

Benson Yeh, one of the leading innovators in modern education and e-learning, is a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the National Taiwan University and the CEO of BoniO, Inc., an edtech startup that develops and commercialises software to enhance education founded in 2013. He is an activist who combines education with fun. He is committed to substantially improving Taiwan’s social atmosphere and education shortcomings.

BoniO combines education and online games, attracting more than 1.3 million children in Taiwan with its fee-free system. It has assisted around 6,000 people in the past year, half of which via the company’s “buy one and donate one” account.

Leading the trend of the “flipped classroom” through BoniO, Yeh and his team developed the PaGamO system, the first Chinese MOOC (massive open online course) and multi-student online gaming platform for education. Through gaming, he enhances the learning process to awaken the curiosity of nearly a million Taiwanese students. Yeh has served as the executive director of the MOOC project and leader of the Educational Development Centre.
