Phillip Tan heads Community Chest, Singapore’s largest social-services fundraiser
Phillip Tan Eng Seong

Phillip Tan is the chairman of the Community Chest, the fund-raising arm of the National Council of Social Service. The Certified Public Accountant, who has over three decades of audit and financial advisory services experience, is actively involved in community service, having held other roles such as vice-president of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and audit committee chair for the Foundation of Rotary Clubs Singapore.

Tan started his involvement in philanthropy with a food distribution programme for the needy and elderly in Redhill as part of the Apex Club of Singapore, a social service body. He soon became involved with the NCSS and Community Chest, which led to a 40-year career in helping the less fortunate. Under his stewardship, Community Chest has raised over $87 million for social service agencies in Singapore and disbursed $58 million to funded programmes in its 2020 financial year.

The former partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers is also chairman of the board of directors at Yellow Ribbon, which helps ex-offenders and their families. Tan is also a director at EQ Insurance Company and a former chairman of Mount Alvernia Hospital.
