Founder, EcoCeres
Philip Siu helped build one of Asia’s leading biofuel companies and a unicorn in sustainable energy
Philip Siu is the co-founder of EcoCeres, a Hong Kong-based advanced bio-refinery platform that converts waste-based biomass into sustainable aviation fuel, hydrotreated vegetable oil and bio-naphtha.
Coming from a distinguished decades-long career in energy and infrastructure, Siu founded EcoCeres, where he helped establish the company’s pioneering approach to renewable energy, focusing on turning waste oils and agricultural residues into clean fuels rather than relying on food-based feedstocks.
Originally developed within Towngas and later backed by Kerogen Capital and Bain Capital, EcoCeres expanded regionally with facilities including a production hub in Malaysia in June 2023. In February 2025 it was reported to have reached unicorn status as interest in sustainable aviation fuel accelerated.
After serving as chief executive and later vice-chairman of the board, Siu retired from his executive role in January 2025, marking a leadership transition as Matti Lievonen took over as chief executive officer. As co-founder, Philip Siu continues to represent the strategic vision behind its growth and decarbonisation goals. His influence endures through EcoCeres’ ongoing mission to lead Asia’s transition toward sustainable fuels and circular-economy solutions.
