Director, Sir Elly Kadoorie & Sons
A member of the legendary Kadoorie clan of business moguls, Philip is set to continue the family legacy
In November, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels (HSH) announced that Philip Kadoorie would take up the deputy chairman role from January 1, 2025. HSH is the parent company of the Peninsula hotel group; Kadoorie’s father Michael remains the group’s chairman.
Kadoorie fills a number of roles within his family’s business empire, which takes in everything from utilities to hospitality to real estate. He is a non-executive director of CLP Holdings, the larger of Hong Kong’s two electricity producers, and a member of its sustainability committee; he is also a director of holding company Sir Elly Kadoorie & Sons. He has been involved in the company's initiatives towards renewable energy and sustainability in 2024.
The youngest child of Michael Kadoorie, boss of the family companies, Philip is also the holder of a commercial helicopter pilot’s licence, and works as a director of family owned business aviation companies Heliservices and Metrojet. He comes from a family with more than 140 years of history in China, initially in Shanghai and subsequently Hong Kong, where his grandfather Lawrence diversified and solidified the Kadoorie empire after the Second World War.
