Peter Lo

Chairman, Johnson Health Tech

Peter Lo turned family business Johnson Health Tech into a worldwide fitness empire

Together with his wife, Peter Lo founded Johnson Health Tech in 1975. What started as a three-person company is, as of 2021, one of the top commercial fitness equipment groups in the world, owning brands such as Johnson, Matrix, Vision, and Horizon, which have been sold to more than 60 countries all over the world. Johnson Health Tech has over 8,000 employees worldwide. Its products are used in professional gyms, highly-rated hotels, clubs, schools, and private fitness areas. Lo continues to abide by his company’s core vision, which is creating the best enterprise to shape human health and continue to evolve in the process.

In 2015, it acquired the fitness equipment distributor Stak Fitness in Canada and the largest fitness equipment monopoly chain channel 2ndWind in the US, actively integrating both online and offline shopping channels, greatly increasing the turnover of the group.

When people were forced to reduce social activities due to the pandemic in 2020, Lo took the opportunity to use his access to specialized equipment in creating online fitness videos. These were broadcasted live, with celebrity coaches for yoga, aerobics, weight training, and Tai Chi, helping the public maintain their physical and mental well-being even in isolation.

That same year, Lo acquired 60 per cent shares of Fuji Medical Devices, a 70-year-old Japanese company that invented the world’s first massage chair. Founded in 1954, Fuji Medical Devices is renowned by Japan’s World Mechanical Heritage for its outstanding contributions. The merger of the two company’s strengths is expected to further expand Johnson Health Tech’s influence in the health territory, offering new products on top of fitness equipment, such as massage chairs, healthcare products, and fitness audio-visual content.

In 2023, Johnson Health Tech reported sales of about US$1.10 billion, ranking it among the largest manufacturers of fitness equipment in the world.
