Paulino Que

Art Collector

After collecting masterpieces for three decades, legendary art patron and collector Paulino Que continues to shift our perception of what good art must be

Manansala, Amorsolo, Kiukok, Ocampo, Abueva, Magsaysay-Ho — these are just some of the Filipino masters that occupy the home of art collector Paulino Que. Joined by pre-colonial treasures, the space is in itself a temple to the arts that physically take you through the highs of Philippine art history.

One of the country’s foremost connoisseurs, Que has curated his collection for over thirty years, making the rounds of galleries as a young bachelor and already a regular at auction houses in the late 1970s. What has set him apart from other collectors, however, is not his voraciousness (though he has plenty of it): it is his ability to truly look at an artwork and understand its context and importance fully.

In a world of art becoming more tightly entwined with commercial pursuits, Que’s refined taste offers a direction many can take after in appreciating what lies on a canvas: Seeks art that is good, not fashionable.
