Pauline Ng was helping her mother Jenny Teng restart her now-defunct facial salon, J Phline, when they founded boutique spa chain Porcelain, The Face Spa in 2009. And they have reaped acclaim in spades since then, having won Best Luxury Beauty Spa at the World Luxury Spa Awards for the past four years, as well as being featured in the Louis Vuitton City Guide. The 30-year-old’s business may be growing rapidly—from the expansion of her team from two to 45-strong, to the opening of its flagship, Porcelain Signatures, at Tanjong Pagar Centre—but Pauline believes in reminding herself to slow down sometimes. “There was a time when we needed to be more efficient, but I think it’s now time to be more human.” When Pauline needs to take her mind off work, she skis, dives and plays the piano.
