Pan Jia Wern is using big data to find new ways of treating cancer. Most treatments for the disease are based on the genomic profiles of individual cancers, but the majority of data is harvested from people of European descent. His response has been to create the largest genomic map of Asian breast cancers, uncovering unique features of cancers in Asian women and leading to a greater understanding of how genetic differences affect treatment options.
