A literary force of rare brilliance, Ocean Vuong has left an indelible mark on the world stage with his evocative storytelling and lyrical prose

Born on the outskirts of Saigon, he immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of two. His early years were marked by hardship—navigating a new language, enduring bullying, and struggling to adapt to an unfamiliar world. After high school, he initially pursued marketing but soon abandoned it in favour of literature at Brooklyn College, a decision that would shape his extraordinary career.

Ocean Vuong first gained recognition as a poet, but it was his novel On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous that cemented his place in global literature. Acclaimed for its unflinching exploration of immigrant struggles in America, toxic masculinity, profound isolation, and the lingering trauma of war, the book has been lauded by critics and readers alike.

Known for his poetic yet raw depiction of life’s harshest truths, he continues to break new ground. On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous is now being adapted for film, with Ocean Vuong himself as screenwriter. Beyond his literary achievements, he has been appointed a tenured lecturer in the Creative Writing programme at New York University’s College of Arts and Science, shaping the next generation of writers.
