While plenty of teenagers don’t know what they want to do when they grow up, this definitely wasn’t the case for Nicola. The filmmaker created her first music video to Mandy Moore’s Crush at the age of 12. Now, with a background in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design, she’s turned a professional hand to her long-held passion with remarkable success. Her first project, a music video to Hong Kong-based band Sonic MSG’s The Eve, was invited to be screened at the New York City Independent Film Festival and the Berlin Independent Film Festival. In 2016, Nicola worked full-time on She Objects, a 60-minute documentary created in partnership with the Women’s Foundation, which explores global issues like the “thinness ideal” and its impact on girls’ self-esteem. Released on June 14, it has a message well worth listening to.
