Nicholas Saputra

Award-winning actor Nicholas Saputra knows that all eyes are on him. Formerly a runway model, Saputra launched his film career without any experience, landing a leading role during his first-ever audition in the early 2000s.

Saputra’s natural flair for acting was revealed when he made his film debut in Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (What’s up with Love?) in 2002. He won two Citra Awards for a leading role in Gie (2005) and Best Supporting Actor in Aruna & Her Palate (2018). While making headlines for his celluloid career, Saputra also makes sure people are listening to him talk about more important issues.

Saputra co-founded a production house in 2013, Tanakhir Films, so he could produce documentaries. Their first feature is a conservation film entitled Semesta (Islands of Faith), which tells the story of different Indonesian activists. He also appeared in and co-produced the 2016 documentary film Save Our Forest Giants, raising awareness of caring for Indonesia’s elephants and forests.

Saputra is Indonesia’s first National Ambassador to Unicef, campaigning for clean water and sanitation for children. He holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Indonesia.
