The person who laid the foundation for the Son Kim family, transforming it from traditional textiles to building a multi-industry private corporation and developing prominent retail brands in Vietnam

Ms. Nguyen Thi Son started her career in the textile industry with Dai Thanh Cooperative in 1957. After 1975, she continued her career in the state-owned sector, culminating in the role of General Director of Legamex from 1989 to 1993. Under her leadership, Legamex became one of Vietnam's largest textile companies, employing about 10,000 workers and exporting to demanding markets such as the Soviet Union, Japan, Poland, and France. It was also one of the earliest enterprises to pilot equitization.

In 1993, she founded Son Kim Investment and Development Co., Ltd., the predecessor of Son Kim Group, marking a shift into the private, multi-industry sector, including manufacturing, retail, and real estate. She built famous retail brands such as VERA, WOW, and franchised JOCKEY internationally.

At the age of 60, Ms. Son established the Dong Nam A Education Development Investment Joint Stock Company and Duy Tan Junior and Senior High School, with the desire to build an education system to train human resources for global integration. She also nurtures and provides scholarships for 64 ethnic minority students from 6th to 12th grade, aiming to train skilled personnel for localities, ethnic minority regions, and islands. Although she has handed over management, she remains a strategic advisor and the most influential figure in the Son Kim family and group.
