The person who sowed life for Vietnamese fetuses
Dr. Nguyen Thi Sim is one of the leading and influential experts in the field of Fetal Medicine in Vietnam. After more than a decade working at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, in the field of obstetrics and prenatal diagnosis, Dr. Sim has witnessed many cases of fetal malformations and stillbirths without treatment. These concerns have motivated her to further delve into the field of Fetal Medicine. In 2007, a turning point came to Dr. Sim when she was sent by Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital to study and receive experience transfer in fetal intervention at leading hospitals in France.
Upon returning to Vietnam, she conducted a national research project on fetal intervention, adapted techniques to suit Vietnam's conditions, initiated and led the first comprehensive fetal medicine center in Vietnam. She became the first doctor to successfully implement three complex fetal intervention techniques (treating twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, oligohydramnios, and amniotic banding), approved by the Ministry of Health in 2024, and later completed and officially applied nationwide. Since then, Dr. Sim has continuously contributed to the country's medical field, while also sowing life for hundreds of fetuses in the womb, as well as adding motivation and hope to many Vietnamese families.
