Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd
The first woman to lead UOB Malaysia, she is driving a new era of purposeful banking through innovation, inclusion and sustainability
Ng Wei Wei is redefining leadership in Malaysia’s financial sector as the first woman to helm UOB Malaysia, the country’s largest foreign bank, in its 74-year history. A Chartered Banker with experience across Asia’s leading financial institutions, Ng brings regional depth and steady leadership to complex change. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Management from Monash University, Australia.
Since her appointment in 2022, she has guided the bank through a transformative period marked by digital innovation, strategic expansion, and a deepened commitment to sustainability and inclusion. Under her leadership, UOB Malaysia successfully integrated Citibank’s consumer banking business and relocated to UOB Plaza 1 Kuala Lumpur—a new platinum-certified green headquarters—underscoring her belief that progress and purpose go hand in hand.
Under her leadership, UOB Malaysia has received prominent industry accolades, including Malaysia’s Best Bank at Global Finance’s World’s Best Bank Awards 2025, as well as Best Bank and Best Sustainable Bank (International Categories) at the 2025 FinanceAsia Awards. These accolades reflect the bank’s strengthened position in regional connectivity, sustainability, and innovation.
Ng’s commitment to social responsibility and inclusive growth is reflected in the initiatives she champions. In 2023, she launched UOB Malaysia’s flagship CSR programme in collaboration with SOLS Foundation, delivering solar power to off-grid Orang Asli homes and providing B40 youths from marginalised communities with vocational training in solar installation. That same year, she also established the Bank’s first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee to promote an inclusive workplace culture. She also elevated the impact of UOB’s Painting of the Year competition, bringing greater awareness to Malaysian art on an international stage.
Named to Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Asia 2025, Ng Wei Wei represents a new era of leadership, grounded in excellence, empathy and purpose, driving both economic progress and social impact. A strong advocate for sustainability, talent development, and inclusive leadership, she has been widely recognised for her influence and impact. In 2025, she received the ASEAN Woman Banker Lifetime Achievement Award, was named PRESTIGE Woman of Power 2024, and inducted into the inaugural Monash Business School Wall of Fame—an honour by Monash Malaysia recognising distinguished alumni who have made significant contributions to their industries and communities.
