More than being the youngest minister in Indonesia, appointed when he was 35 years old, Nadiem Anwar Makarim was also the CEO of the phenomenal Gojek Indonesia. The successful pioneer of the digital technology company received his undergraduate studies in international relations from Brown University and post-graduate studies from Harvard Business School. Under his leadership, Gojek rose from its bootstrapping days in 2010 to being named Fortune’s Top 50 Companies that changed the world in 2017 upon achieving the unicorn status. Gojek Indonesia continued its rise, earning the decacorn status in 2019; meanwhile, Nadiem focuses on advancing education in Indonesia. Under his eight Merdeka Belajar programmes are agendas to improve school digitalisation, upgrade curriculums, and introduce more cultural and local language learning.
