Lawyer, judge and diplomat MPH Rubin spent his working life as a lawyer and diplomat, principally as high commissioner to African nations

Mohideen MP Haja Rubin, better known as MPH Rubin, has had a lengthy and illustrious career as a lawyer, judge and diplomat spanning some 40 years. He is best known for his work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving as high commissioner and ambassador to countries such as South Africa, Hungary, Fiji and New Zealand.

Rubin started his career as a lawyer. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 1974, and served in private practice before being appointed to the Bench of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1991 as a Judicial Commissioner. He became a judge three years later, and retired from the judiciary in 2005.

His first appointment as a diplomat was as High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to the Republic of South Africa, in October 2005. He was concurrently also accredited to the Republic of Botswana, the Republic of Namibia, the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Kingdom of Swaziland. Rubin was subsequently named Singapore's High Commissioner to New Zealand in 2009, and ambassador to Hungary in 2012.

Rubin is married to Jaya Mohideen, Singapore’s non-resident ambassador to Finland. They have two children.
