Polpat “Moo” Asavaprapha

Polpat “Moo” Asavaprapha is a prominent Thai fashion designer and creative director, best known for founding the fashion house Asava. As president of the Bangkok Fashion Society, he has also made significant contributions to the Thai fashion industry.

Moo is of mixed heritage, with a Japanese mother and a Thai father, and grew up in a business-oriented family that owned car dealerships. He earned a degree in fashion design from Parsons School of Design in New York, where he earned a degree in Fashion Design; and a master's degree from Claremont Graduate University. After spending nearly a decade in New York, Moo returned to Thailand to establish Asava, which has gained both local and international recognition for its couture designs.

Moo is a familiar face on television, serving as a mentor on shows like The Face Men Thailand and The Face Thailand. He also runs a restaurant called Sava Dining.

“Contemporary” is a word that comes up when discussing both his design philosophy and personal style. “The word ‘contemporary’ gives the sense of being casual and relevant. To create something that is truly contemporary, you have to understand the past, know our own identity, be aware of the present, and look to the future. Bundle all that together and make it resonate with our time. Art—whatever form, be it paintings, architecture, theatre or fashion—only resonates with the people in its time, and that makes it challenging for people working in creative field.”
