Mohammad Riza Chalid

Owner, Global Energy Resources

The notorious “gasoline godfather” Mohammad Riza Chalid, a vastly successful businessman who owns Global Energy Resources, remains somewhat of an enigma to the public at large

A renowned figure in Indonesia, Mohammad Riza Chalid, known as the "Gasoline Godfather", dominates the oil-import business. His company, Global Energy Resources, was the largest oil supplier to Petral, a company owned by state-owned oil and gas firm Pertamina. Globe Asia named Riza Chalid one of the wealthiest people in Indonesia, with wealth estimated at US$415 million through Global Energy Resources.

Riza Chalid still owns other business units such as KidZania, a children’s theme park with bases in the upscale Pacific Place mall, Central Jakarta, and nearby Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD). He is also known to have expanded into aviation, owning shares in AirAsia Indonesia. Riza Chalid also established the Al Jabr International Islamic School in South Jakarta in 1994.

While Riza Chalid’s name is currently free from legal cases, he has proven to be something of a grey area in the eyes of the law, finding himself occasionally linked to political scandals.
