Rewind a few years, and there were no shortage of people who’d happily tell you that Canto-pop was a genre in terminal decline. Since the rise of Mirror, not so much. The 12-member band that rules Hong Kong’s homegrown pop scene, with a fandom whose reach and intensity are unmatched in the city’s recent musical history, emerged in 2018 when they took part in a reality TV show, Viu TV’s snappily titled Good Night Show—King Maker, which was won by one of them, the band’s breakout star Keung To.

With a string of hits since, including from several band members as solo artists, they released their debut album, One and All, in 2021. They have effectively lived their entire lives since they became famous inside a screen, participating in several reality shows, as well as acting in TV dramas, including 2020’s We Are the Littles, which featured nine of them.

They are also much loved by brands, from Gucci to Shiseido to McDonalds, appearing in what appears to be every second ad in Hong Kong.
